American Red Cross volunteers provide 24-hour emergency services to military personnel and their families.  Services include counseling, referral, emergency communications, financial assistance in certain cases, reporting for military authorities and assistance in obtaining government benefits. 

The American Red Cross is chartered by the United States government to provide these essential emergency services and has access to the military defense communications network to accomplish them.
